An overview of my approach

Why I photograph families

New arrivals, wobbly first steps, food smeared round mouths, holding hot little hands – family life is full of moments that you’d love to capture but that go by so fast.

Having watched my own little girl grow up in the blink of an eye, I know first-hand how important photographs of each fleeting stage is. I really treasure my own family photographs, and I’m passionate about creating meaningful photographs for other families.

Life moves so quickly, and even faster with little ones in the mix. It’s such a delight to capture these wonderful, crazy years with beautiful, natural photographs that will bring back memories in years to come.

What to expect

My sessions are always fun and easy-going. I take care to create a relaxed atmosphere where everyone can be themselves – that’s when the magic happens. I’m a mum myself so I totally get how unpredictable children can be – some days they’re full of beans, some days they’re quiet and cuddly, some days they won’t take their fingers out of their nose! I totally get the madness that comes with parenting, but wouldn’t change it for the world – these all becomes cherished memories once they’ve grown up.

Child and family photography

Family portrait sessions usually start in your own home, so your children can get used to having a camera around in familiar surroundings.

With a half-day or day in the life documentary session, you can more or less go about your day as you would normally. Whichever activities your family enjoy, do those and I’ll quietly photograph you as you go – capturing all the special little moments and memories that make up a day. I always recommend at least a half-day session as it allows more time for children to get really immersed in their activities, and that’s when their personalities really shine through. I find that these longer sessions result in a set of images that really capture your family life, and that’s what you’ll want to look back on when your little ones have grown and flown the nest.

If budget’s limited, then a ‘slice of life’ 2 hour session is a good option. It’s enough time to get some indoor and outdoor shots, and a couple of different activities at home as well as some portraits. We’ll typically spend an hour or so at home, and then we’ll either go to your favourite park, take a walk around the local area or maybe just go out into the garden. It’s up to you, depending on where you and your children feel most comfortable.

Ultimately, having a portrait session is a great opportunity to enjoy spending some quality time with your kids, and to create some beautiful images to remember it all by.

Natural newborn photography

With newborn portraits, we normally stay in your home unless you’re looking for some outdoor portraits too. There’s a lot going on in those first few weeks! I’ll photograph you cuddling your baby, capturing the whirlwind of these early days in calm and beautiful photographs. I’ll capture all those special details – their little face gazing at you, their tiny features, how tiny their body is against yours, those precious cuddles – and the very precious moments of sleep!

With a half-day or day in the life session, you can go about your new family life whilst I photograph it all. First weeks go by in a flash, and it’s wonderful to have a collection of photographs that record the love and the crazy little moments that go into caring for a newborn. I recommend a half-day or Day in the Life session wherever possible, as it takes all the time pressure off – if your baby’s having a windy day or cluster feeding, we’ll still have lots of time to get a lovely variety of shots. Likewise, if your baby’s older than the ideal 7-10 day window, that doesn’t matter with a longer session – we’ll have the time in hand to cope with any digestive issues or crankiness.

If budget doesn’t allow for a longer session, then a shorter 2-hour session is still a good option. We’ll have time to capture some portraits of your baby as well as with you cuddling him/her, and some candid moments too.

Natural maternity photography

Maternity portraits usually take place in your favourite park, or we can take them in the comfort of your home – or if there’s somewhere specific that’s meaningful to you, we can absolutely take them there. I’ll capture the beauty of your growing bump, as well as your relationship at this special time of your lives.

Reportage christening and baptism photography

Christenings and Baptisms are really special and incredibly personal events so naturally, we’ll be super discreet and sensitive. Whether it’s me taking the photographs or my associate photographer Adam, our aim, as always, is to give you a beautiful record of the day with photographs to treasure for years to come.

Presenting your photographs

All your photographs will be lovingly edited, and available in both colour and in black and white. About a week after our photography session, your photographs will be ready to view on a password-protected online gallery. Having seen your photographs and selected your favourites, I can support you with deciding how you’d like to display them.

My design degree and previous role managing a photography gallery means I can give you expert guidance on how best to present your photographs – I’ll create an album layout for your consideration, and can advise on which photographs would work best for framed prints and which sizes would work best for your home.

Please contact me for a products guide and booking options.

Most families choose to spend between £500 and £1,000 on prints and albums, but there’s absolutely no pressure to order anything and no minimum spend – if you’d like to though, I can work with you to create something really beautiful.
