Christening photography at St Botolph Without Bishopsgate Church
St Botolph’s is such a beautiful church – I love the fact such historic buildings survive right in the middle of a financial zone. It’s one of the things I love most about London, and which makes my job of photographing christenings such a delight.
The light is lovely, too – it makes a nice change from some of the very dark churches I find myself photographing in! Soft, gentle light is so pretty, and very flattering.
It’s great that the priests here tend to be quite relaxed about which parts of the service can be photographed. I always suggest checking in with them beforehand to double check this, it makes such a difference to have all the uncertainties ironed out beforehand.
Getting ready photographs, before the christening
It’s wonderful capturing the getting ready phase before a christening, it’s a lovely opportunity to document all those special details – like the flowers, cake and christening gown – before the real drama of the day kicks in! And capturing the process of getting dressed, and cuddles with family, really helps to tell the story of the day. If you’re planning on creating an album, I’d highly recommend considering getting ready photos as they make for a really special intro to an album.
