Photographing a Baptism at Hagia Sophia Greek Cathedral

It was an honour to photograph this Greek Baptism. I’ve now photographed quite a few Greek baptisms, but this was my first. Learning about the format and rituals of a Greek baptism was essential, so I’d be ready for the key moments.

It was also the little boy’s first birthday, so the reception doubled as a birthday party – a lovely opportunity to photograph him with his family, godparents and friends. As is often the case, the reception was at a nearby pub, with a private dining room – which was decorated beautifully. I always make sure to photograph all the details that you’ve spent so long planning: the room decor, the cake, the table decorations. The details all go into bringing back memories in years to come – as well as photographs of your and your guests enjoying yourselves on this special day.
